Music Machine 26 consists of a slow, sustained chord progression played by a string quartet.
Here is the score:
The progression is played three times. During the first play through a computer records a number of clips of varying lengths. In the following two repeats of the progression the computer plays back those clips over the live quartet at random times. In common with all the music machine pieces it will therfore be different each time it is performed and the recording on the cd is only a single instance of the work.
The piece was first performed by Exeter Contemporary Sounds at the Phoenix Arts Centre in 2014.
